AN INTRODUCTION INTO CHRISTIAN HEAVY METAL

When I first made the switch to Christian music I had no idea that there was such a thing as Christian Heavy Metal. Seventh Day Slumber was my introduction into that world of music. I am absolutely hooked now and I think that if there is anyone out there having trouble finding Christian music you like on the radio then I suggest looking online for music more your style. If I didn't look for it myself then I never would have found Seventh Day Slumber and would still be torn between my faith and my desire to listen to fast paced and edgy music with questionable lyric content. Thank You Seventh Day Slumber for helping me with that struggle.

I had a great time at the ROCK & WORSHIP ROADSHOW

Just this past thursday I had the opportunity to go so the first ever ROCK & WORSHIP ROADSHOW. This show had it all! It started off with Addison Road and followed with Tenth Avenue North, Hawk Nelson, Jeremy Camp, and last but not least MercyMe! All of these bands for just $10 at the door. It was a great show and the Key Arena was pretty darn full. This post is going to be a bit larger than the others because I am going to show 1 video of each of the bands in the show. This show was put together to raise money for Compassion International and also to inform people about child sponsorship opportunities through Compassion International. The final video on this post is of Jeremy Camp talking about Compassion International and what it means to him and the difference your sponsorship could make! I strongly urge you to watch the video's and, if it is on your heart to do so, then take that step to make a difference in a childs life today!

I have to admit that I am not hugely fond of Bebo Norman's music but I absolutely love this song. The raw emotion and love that I felt the moment that I invited God into my life is really drawn out when I listen to this song. He really captures the pure power and majesty of God within his lyrics. This song, in my opinion, is one of the top worship songs out there.

I was blessed to have the opportunity to get to know these guys a little bit while attending church. They used to lead worship in the mornings at Brookview Community Church. I got to know Matt(vocals) pretty well and also got to know Justing(guitar) as well. Great guys with an awesome sense of humor and a lot of talent. I know that they will go a long way and will be spreading God's word for a long time to come. So far they have 3 albums and are going strong. Album #1 is ALBATROSS #2 is SEATTLE SESSIONS and #3 is THE SILVER CORD. Each album has a unique sound all it's own. I hope you enjoy this video......check out more of their videos at TANGLE.COM.

MERCYME ~ Finally Home

MercyMe is deffinately one of my favorite bands. I saw them in concert about 2 or 3 years ago at the Puyallup Fair in Puyallup, WA. Just before they performed the song "One Trick Pony" they said that it was about a review they got that said that MercyMe was a "one trick pony" and all of their music and lyrics were the same. They responded and their response was that they will always perform songs to glorify the most important part of their every day lives and that is God. They really are intense with emotion and strong in faith. MercyMe continues to put out great tracks that do exactly that.....Glorifies God. Enjoy!

Well before I became a christian myself I was listening to this band. What happened was one of my friends in High School brought me to a church in Everett, WA to see these guys play. I was blown away. It was a lot of fun and the music was awesome. These days it is very hard to find anything from Sky Park. I don't think that they are still recording together which is too bad because I really think that they could have gone a long way. This was the only video I could find of them and I am very excited to share it with all of you! As far as I know they had 4 albums but I could be wrong. The first one was called Sinai which at the time was also the name of the band. After that they changed their name to Sky Park and I can't remember the name of the album but it had a frog on the front of it. The third one was called "Am I Pretty" and the fourth one was "Over Blue City". If any of you are able to track down a copy of any of their albums or know what happened to them I would love to know! Enjoy!

COMMENTARY

This is by far my favorite worship song. I love how strong and uplifting and hopeful the lyrics are. The music is absolutely beautiful and her voice is amazing. I generally listen to alternative rock and heavy metal but this song is so personal that there is no way I could feel the same way about a heavy metal song. Very powerful and very spiritual song. When I listen to this song it is as if God is embracing me and I know that He will never let me go.

My Commentary

One of the things that helped me to grow strong in my own faith was music. When I first became a Christian I was going through a transition from mainstream music to Christian music. Jeremy Camp made it very easy for me because his music is just as modern and edgy as anything else out there but with spiritually uplifting lyrics. Since then I have been exposed to many other Christian artists that are absolutely wonderful as well but I feel that it was Jeremy Camp's music that really opened that door for me! My wife found this album at the Family Christian Store. She was just looking through different albums and picking some out at random and listening to the sample tracks. She fell in love with this album and bought it. I have to say that it only took me a couple of times through the album before I was hooked as well.
